Asbestos is a highly effective insulator and fire-resistant material. There are thousands of asbestos containing materials (ACMs) on the market. The material has been used in construction products since the 1800s.
As an asbestos testing company, ERI performs asbestos surveys to keep businesses like yours compliant with state and federal regulations. Our goal is to reduce the risk of exposure to asbestos.
Here are some of the types of materials we will analyze:
Asbestos tile testing
Mold and asbestos testing services
Asbestos air clearance testing
Popcorn ceiling asbestos testing
Drywall asbestos tests
It was eventually discovered that asbestos is also highly dangerous. Its health risk is due to the damage it can do to a person’s lungs. Asbestos is made of tiny fibers 80 times smaller than a human hair. So it’s easy to inhale and can cause several very serious conditions, including:
In 1978, asbestos was made illegal for commercial use in Texas. So, asbestos is much more common in older buildings. However, Texas law requires all buildings to be inspected, no matter the age of the facility.
Asbestos is slowly being abated from older buildings year after year, which reduces the risk every year. However, it is still a common problem. In fact, approximately 1.3 million workers are at risk of exposure in the United States today.
There are at least three reasons to schedule asbestos testing:
Because asbestos was legally prohibited in 1978, most commercial buildings constructed since then are less likely to be contaminated. However, Texas law does require testing for all commercial buildings, regardless of age.
Texas law requires you to have your facility inspected before you can acquire a building permit.
Asbestos is hazardous and can even be life-threatening. Keep your building occupants safe by requesting an asbestos screening for your commercial property.
At ERI Consulting, asbestos inspections are done quickly, thoroughly, and in accordance with the regulations of EPA, OSHA, and TDSHS. Here’s our process:
Before we schedule your asbestos inspection, we will need some information about your building, such as:
We’ll put together a proposal letting you know how long the project will take and what will be involved.
We will collect three inconspicuous samples from each type of material that may have asbestos. These include sheetrock, floor tiles, ceiling tiles, and other materials. Inspections usually take 2-3 days, depending on the size of the building.
We will bring all asbestos sampling materials to our asbestos testing lab in the Dallas area. At the lab, we’ll analyze it with standard Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM).
A certified asbestos inspector must do asbestos lab testing under the supervision of licensed asbestos consultants. We have both in-house.
Each of our consultants and analysts is fully qualified with:
If lab results show the presence of asbestos at your facility, we are fully equipped to handle your abatement project.
Removing asbestos requires three groups: the contractor, consultant, and state inspector. Each of these must be independent of one another to prevent any conflict of interest. ERI Consulting handles all consulting services and can recommend a professional third-party contractor.
As your asbestos consultants, we communicate all specifications for abatement and ensure compliance from the contractor. Throughout the abatement process, we will collect air samples both in the building and on workers every day.
